Getting Started
Inverhuron Business Information Services Inc provides an application
designed to add serialised inventory tracking to your current management
systems using barcoded inventory labels or tags.
Focused on the steel processing sector, and
designed and packaged to suit even the very smallest of manufacturing or
distribution companies, our system can provide you with key rudiments for
gaining ISO certification.
On the demo system, printing is done to your choice of local printer
in a single page per label format through your browser, and the labels have
no bar coding on them.
On the live system, labels can still be printed in this manner, but the
normal method is to produce bar
coded labels instead, which are automatically
directed to the assigned bar code printer without the need to use the
browser print function.
Even if you don't have a company server, you can still use our system, because
we will host it for you.
If you have internet access then the simple steps to getting started are:
- Download the manual or read it online.
- Connect to our server and try out the demo system.
You will need Firefox or some other W3C compliant browser.
Internet Explorer intentionally does not work with our software (it could, but
we chose not to make it that way).
You can get Firefox here.
- On the demo system, create a few examples of your inventory using the Manual Tag function, and note the serial numbers assigned to them.
While on the demo system you can try out a variety of activities.
With barcode printing disabled (the default for the demo) you will still be
able to print tracking information on any of your local printers.
Labels printed this way will not have barcodes on them but will carry most
of the other information you might want.
- Contact us by email, phone or fax, and make arrangements for a login to your own company data space.
- We will provide you with up to five company logins as part of the service
- We will need to know your company name, address and telephone number
- We will fax you samples of the standard labels for your data using the demo system and the serial numbers you provide us with
- Let us know of any custom alterations you require for your barcode labels
- Tell us what IP and port you will be using for your barcode printing.
If you don't understand this then tell us who we can talk to about
your network and firewall so we can provide you with a printer
connection.
- Buy a printer (we recommend the Zebra 105SL) and labels (standard is 4 x 6
inches, coated for weather resistance), thermal transfer from a plastic ribbon for UV resistance.
- Optionally, buy a scanner to aid with data entry.
It is a wise idea, as it should help reduce data entry errors and may help
speed up some clerical processes.
- Connect your printer, put the labels in, log in and start managing your
inventory.
You can actually operate the system without a barcode printer, just using the
default format tracking labels which can be printed on any printer but without
bar codes.
It may be possible, with the right printer and label size, to print adhesive
labels for your inventory and use the system without expensive bar code
equipment.
We look after your data, make sure it is secure and regularly backed up.
We maintain the database and take care of any program or database problems.
We answer your questions and provide you with technical support.
An initial setup fee gets you started.
After that, a basic monthly fee plus charges based on serial number
volume and data retention covers you for all of the above.
Advice and help in managing your inventory is also available on an hourly
consulting basis.
If you need to have our system installed locally on your own server then
there will be a charge for the software and very likely also for
installation, as well as contracts, liability
forms, non-disclosure agreements and non-compete agreements to sign.
